Happy Halloween!

The boys first Halloween!  How fun! ...But what to wear?  I wanted to dress the boys up for their first Halloween, but didn't want to spend a fortune on costumes that they would only wear for one day...more like 10 minutes actually.  So last week I took a trip to Banff with a couple of friends and found some really cute animal toques which I thought could pass as costumes, plus they could wear them all winter (and probably next since they're a little big).

Hoo who are you?

Grr!

The hats weren't enough though.  I had another idea to hollow out two big pumpkins and stick them inside so only their heads and arms were sticking out...but we waited til the last minute for that idea and ended up with only one pumpkin that wasn't big enough to fit a baby inside.  So I made a funky Jack-o-lantern instead.

We made one last desperate attempt at finding more pumkins at Shoppers Drug Mart.  They didn't have any...but they did have cheap costumes for pets...hmmm, that could work!

Haha it was good for a laugh...too bad they wouldn't fit Jack.
After all that costume stuff we were ready to hand out some candy, but only had two kids come by...oh well, more candy for us!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

From the Crafty Closet...

I'm so excited about my new found craft.  When I saw this idea on etsy, I knew I had to make one!  I couldn't even sleep that night (well, the babies probably had something to do with that...) thinking about how to go about making one, what colour of yarn to use and how the heck to make those felt flowers.  So while we were in Calgary last weekend I made a pit stop at Micheal's to get some supplies.  The next day I created my yarn wreath...

For all you crafty folks out there, these are so easy and fun to make, plus they would make a very nice Christmas gift.  All you need is a ball of yarn, some felt, a foam wreath and a glue gun.  The first thing you do is tie the yarn onto the wreath, then start wrapping...wrapping and wrapping.  When you finally have that done, the fun part is making the felt flowers.  Here's how...

Cut out a wavy circle

Cut into the circle at a dip in the wave and continue cutting around in a spiral

Stop cutting when you create a small circle at the end

Then tightly start rolling the flower from the outside of the circle where you first cut, to the inside

Use a glue gun to glue the little circle onto the bottom to hold it together
When you've made a bunch of flowers glue them onto the wreath using your glue gun.  There's so many other options you can put on your wreath too ie. little birds, ribbon bows, twigs etc. the possibilities are endless.  I can't wait to make another one!

Happy Crafting!

A Great Weekend

We had a lovely weekend with the boys.  It started off Friday night going out for pizza at the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co.   I had been waiting all week for this outing...I don't get out much anymore.  It was such a nice evening. The boys were very well behaved, they pretty much just slept the whole time.  We got a few comments from the other customers saying how brave we were to go out to a restaurant with two babies.  We figured pizza was a safe bet because it's easy to pack up if worse came to worse and we had to leave in a hurry.

Mmmmm....nothing better than left over pizza

Saturday was a really nice sunny day.  We ditched the stroller and took the boys on a little hike.  It ended up being a bit of an adventure.  We started out on a trail called snake bite, but then we decided instead of continuing on the trail going up we'd just cut across bushwack style (it wasn't too busy though, more grassy).  We finally saw the trail again, but we were pretty high above it and had to switch back to get to it.  This would have been no problem if I wasn't wearing sandals and didn't have a baby strapped to the front of me.  I only slipped once.

Me and Liam taking a break

Sunday we went to Calgary to see our friends Manny and Elaine who just had a baby boy a couple weeks ago.  I baked them a nice loaf of chocolate chip banana bread...and the boys helped too.

Casey, Cody and Liam...now they look big!
Then when we got home from Calgary we got the good news that my cousin Brad had a healthy baby boy named Carson.  So exciting!  Lots of baby boys these days...my sister Jenny is also expecting a boy coming in January, I can't wait!

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Interactions

The boys are starting to interact with one another  more and more each day.  It's so fun to watch.  Up until recently they would barely glance each others way, but now they are becoming interested to know who this person is that looks much like themselves.  The first time they acknowledged each other happened a few weeks ago after I fed them (both at the same time) they smiled at each other as they lay facing one another on the nursing pillow.  Now when I place them in their "bumbo" chairs they laugh and talk and play footsies, it's so cute!

Oh The Weather Outside Is Weather

We woke up to a snowy morning yesterday.  Weather in the mountains can be pretty crazy. You can have a snow storm in July and have a chinook in January that makes it feel like summer again.  I don't mind a good chinook, but when it snows too early I'm just not ready for it.  Nevertheless we still had to go out and bear the cold...I guess we have to get used to it sooner than later since winter is just around the corner.

Casey and Liam all bundled up

Things at Rob's work have been pretty busy lately.  He works at the Nordic Centre making snow for our Olympian cross country skiers.  Last year they made a huge pile of snow (that they call "Frozen Thunder") which remained over the summer covered in a thick layer of sawdust and tarps.  Frozen Thunder gives them a head start on getting the trails ready for the skiers to train on.  They've been pushing out the snow this last week and with the cooler temps we're expected to have they'll be working through the night this weekend to try and make some snow.  Last year at this time it felt like the dead of winter, so they had a really good start to the snow making season.  Hopefully they do as well this year.

Enjoy the weekend!

Melanies Potato Soup

A while ago Rob was looking through the deep freeze in the garage and came across a tub of neapolitan ice cream...I was so excited, until I realized it wasn't neapolitan ice cream at all but was the potato soup my sister had made when she was visiting this summer. (No offence Mel, it's not that I wasn't excited about the soup, it just wasn't ice cream.)
So anyway, the other day I finally pulled out that potato soup from the freezer.  It was one of those days where I had no idea what to make for dinner, didn't have much food in the cupboard and just didn't feel like making anything anyway.  Potato soup to the rescue!
Crackers just wouldn't cut it for this kind of soup...so I mustered up the energy to bake some homemade cheese biscuits (and I'm not talkin' bisquick here.).   About four years ago Melanie gave me this recipe.  They're way better than bisquick and just as easy...I believe those were her exact words when she told me about them.
After being inside most of the day I felt the need for some fresh air.  So we took our soup and biscuits out to Gap Lake for a picnic.  I'd like to say I got to enjoy my soup nice and hot while enjoying the mountain view in front of me but that wasn't the case. Instead I scarfed it down lukewarm while trying to tame two crying babies and a whiny dog and take a few pics on top of that...but I enjoyed it none the less.

A little surprise visitor came by to see us just as we were packing up to leave.

Thanks for the soup Melanie!

Thanksgiving with Grandma Millar

Rob's mom finally got to meet her grand-twins!  She came to visit over the thanksgiving holiday and helped us make our thanksgiving dinner extra special.  We had quite the feast, there's nothing like a good turkey dinner with all the fixin's.

Good Mornings

I finally feel like we're really getting into a routine these days...for the morning part of the day anyway.  Our day starts off a little something like this...The boys wake up when Daddy gets up to get ready for work....bright eyed and poopy bummed...and hungry!  So we change those little bummies, and feed those hungry mouths right away.  Once that's out of the way, it's play time!  We read books, sing songs and play games in bed, it's so much fun!
Meanwhile, Jack has been crossing his legs this whole time and is about ready to pee his pants. So we get dressed and go for a nice long walk where boys drift back into dreamland and Jack pees on every tree he's got ammo for.

The boys have been enjoying story time, they love to look at the bright coloured pictures.

Putting on a shadow puppet show.

Happy dog!
So that's how we've been spending our lovely mornings the last couple weeks. It seems to be working for everyone!
